PostHeaderIcon How do I find reliable and true natural health info online?

There are 10000s of websites on nutrition and natural healing etc on the iternet and I am wondering how one finds the reliable ones, not ones trying to sell you something or scaring you half to death or even writing untrue and innacurate things about food and health. I know there are a few reputable doctors specializing in alternative medicine with websites, but what about others? Nutritionists? How do you know if its not a bunch of heresay?

This is a big question. I have researched for years in this field and I think the problem is the basics are true;
1. Get rid of processed foods and start eating more raw ingredients.
2. Move away from chemical laden personal items like shampoo, soap, household cleansers, etc.
3. Supplement at least organic minerals like selenium (cancer), chromium (diabetes) and magnesium (heart disease).

These principles are sound and backed up with solid scientific evidence. The problem come in with our reluctance to actually CHANGE our lifestyles. This brings on all the hucksters with magic pills and "vitamins" to where we don’t have to change. There is also a large number of people who have already waited too long and are seeking a cure for the diseases created by inadequate nutrition or toxic exposure.

That said, here are my favorites:
mercola.com
naturalnews.com
lewrockwell.com/sardi/sardi-arch.html
dearpharmacist.com
raysahelian.com/
the-vitaman.com

Even though some of them do have items to sell, everyone has to make a living and I judge by the availability of information. If they give you the information then show what they sell that’s different than giving you 10 pages of hype, not telling you what is even in their product, then trying to sell it to you. Also, a sideline from my research has given me a desire to be an herbalist, the mother of all medicine.

Hope this helps,
Rick

PostHeaderIcon Has anyone went to the center for massage and natural health in Asheville, NC?

Im thinking about signing up for this school but i want to make sure its accredited for first. I would like to talk to somebody who has actually attended there before.

Good Morning.

Yes, the Center for Massage & natural health is accredited by COMTA (Commission on Massage Therapy Accreditation), the toughest accreditation a massage school can achieve, and we are also approved by the U.S. Department of Education to offer Federal Financial Aid.

We have approximately 800 students. You will find hundreds of testimonials on our Massage School page (click the tab on the bottom) http://www.centerformassage.com/massage-school.html , or look for us on FaceBook. http://www.facebook.com/pages/Asheville-NC/Center-for-Massage-Natural-Health/60815835812?ref=ts I just started that page a few weeks ago, and we already have over 500 fans, many of whom are graduates. By law, I am not permitted to release contact information of our graduates, but there are many out there.

Thank you for considering my school. I would be honored if you chose us.

Many blessings,
Peggy

PostHeaderIcon I want to further my education….what do i do after i get a Associate of Science in Natural Health?

Im going to get an Associate of Science in natural health
Concentration in Advanced Paramedical Skin Care…… what do i/ can i do to to further my self and gain more experience….. what would i go to school for or is that it?
what can i pursue to obtain a bachelors or masters degree in something of that nature?

If I were you, I’d transfer to a 4 year and earn a B.S in Biology. Then, when you do your M.S, you’ll be able to focus your research on natural health. Bachelor’s degrees are often very well rounded, and Master’s specific.

PostHeaderIcon i want to work for organic/natural cosmetic/health care industry. what major should I take in college?

10 points for best question. Please enable your yahoo Id or email so that I could ask more in the case I am interesting in ur question.
Thanks
dam, I trapped myself. I mean 10 points for best answer~ silly me
Sorry Dan S~ you will have to fix your answer :D

What is your best major? Chemical Engineering of course. Those are the people who design, test and create the products. Organic or not they still have to be created and tested by Chemical Engineers.

After that I would look at marketing and think about getting an MBA in that area.

But, if you are going to create anything for the cosmetic or health industry then chemicals are going to be involved and Chemical Engineers are the best at it. Industrial Engineering would be easier, but less applicable. A degree in that field would help you design the machines and systems to create the products. However, the backbone of the industry will be Organic Chemistry.

Okay, you said ten points for the best question: “What kind of products do you want to create?” Saying it is organic is nice, but just because it has dirt on it doesn’t mean it is any better than something man made. In fact man made items will be purer and have tighter safety controls and better manufacturing. The best thing you should look at is to not make a product organic, but to make it basic. How much artificial die and preservatives do you need for your product. Organics claim to not have that, but that only means they are not as good and won’t last as long as the man made stuff. Look at the packaging on your shampoo and try to find out what you can do without. Once you figure that out then you can make better products, and clearly a strong chemistry knowledge will give you the tools to not only understand what those chemicals are, but what you don’t need in the mix.

I remember an old episode of a murder mystery; Colombo. He solved a murder committed by a cosmetic industry giant. She used arsenic that she got from makeup and put it in the victim’s cigarettes so he inhaled it and was poisoned. Do you really need arsenic or cyanide in cosmetics?
